"We deem you adequate, foreign citizen"

The cat is officially out of the bag; we are going to the Kong.

Blaine messaged me just as I got out of the shower  this morning reading "We're going to Hong Kong biaaaaatch". This led to me issuing a number of jubilant yelps followed by telling my mom and calling up my dad at work. (That reminds me, call granny too).
What goes in the bag:

  • iPod
  • Camera
  • Some medical textbook (just to make me feel academic)
  • Bible (to remind me that I am a faithful being)
  • Money and valuables satchel (I really do lose all things with value regularly)
  • Unicycle? (I am contemplating the reward:effort ratio)
  • Pants

At 3:37 AM we received our email from valiant Ying from the Chinese embassy giving congrats that our request for Hong Kong visas have been accepted (with honours). We have cut it very fine this time, since our passports shall only be ready for collection on Thursday morning...and my flight leaves Thursday evening. I am certain that credit for this turn of events can be allocated to grace alone #Genade
Now it can finally sink in and we can start packing our bags.

This list feels compete. That can't be right. Obviously I will wait 'til the last minute to throw in a couple of more things into my bag.

Cheung Chau Island you are ours

Day 13-14 Day 13 Temple Street Night Market  The past few days have been eventful to say the least. One evening I decided to elope to Temple Street Night market. It's basically a market...but at night. Among the merchandise sold were countless socks (of which I bought 10 for 100HK$), and many trinkets and doodahs. Most of these one will not ever have any use for yet every now and then you find something useless that you feel you have a need for.  The hustle and bustle is what I enjoyed the most. You might think you see a lot of tourists but actually  not. A  lot of the times these markets are filled to the brim with locals. In Hong Kong you can set up a shop anywhere  and there will be people to fill it. It's a diffusion sort of thing, I think. The cheaper it is the less you need it @ Temple Street Night Market Day 14: Cheung Chau Island you have been conquered. This beautiful Saturday morning, Blaine awoke me once aga...

From Breakfast cakes to windy canoe adventures

Day 5&6:  This is a long post, brace yourself.... Now unbrace. Last night we slept at Blaine's aunt's house in Stanley (without our trusty laptops), therefore today's much (self-)anticipated blog entry will cover both day 5 and 6 of our Hong Kong stumblings. Day 5: Probably ate my bodyweight in everything Breakfast cake The number one suprise of the morning was a celebration at the doctors' breakfast table because there is cake (Hong Kong loves cake; in my opinion it has the highest cake shop per capita density on earth). And so much of it. This is because sadly one of the nurses are leaving. The cake was delicious and I guiltily wished more nurses would plan to leave in the future. The cake was obviously shared with more ricey breakfast pieces, dim sum, dumplings and other funny delicious pastries. Note:  I may or may not have had the most cake of anybody at the table. And it may or may not have been ridiculously delicious. Cake, Hong ...

The end. Farewell Hong Kong but I love my Africa

+Blaine left in the early hours of the morning, but not without a "see you in class, bro" exchanged between us. He is off to Thailand with his family and will be arriving back in South Africa on the morning that our first class starts. Ha ha ha. I had a peaceful morning, eating bran sticks (never had them before, they are incredibly delicious, can see me becoming addicted). Andy Warhol museum: 15 Minutes Eternal What a pleasant suprise that the Andy Warhol Museum is currently touring Asia and is it's largest endevour to this continent as of yet. I zipped down on the MTR underground to Tsim Sau Tsui to the Hong Kong Museum of Arts and was transported to a world of art. A couple of well known memorable quotes by Andy Warhol that were displayed on the walls: "Everybody must have a fantasy." "I've never met a person I couldn't call a beauty." "I never think that people die, they just go to department stores" (I had no ide...
